In my fashion history class, we were tasked to pick a collection (any year, as long as there were photos) and write about the significance of the collection and emphasize the historical impacts of the collection.
I chose Vivienne Westwood because I was inspired by her creative and unique styles. The collection I chose, Fall/Winter 1990 “Portrait” Collection, was inspired by art history and the Victorian Era — Westwood was known for being invested in combining fashion with history and it was seen in multiple of her collections, so I knew she’d be the perfect designer for this assignment. I went to the library and found a Vivienne Westwood Collection Book and deep dove into lots of research and finding pictures from the runway show of this collection.

From this assignment, I learned a lot about Vivienne Westwood’s design strategies, the importance of art and fashion, and how to write a true fashion paper. Prior to this assignment, I didn’t have a lot of experience with writing fashion research based papers and after this I felt more confident to write about fashion.
